1.) The first thing you want to do is get the -12x alone. You can do this by adding that -17 to the -89 on the right side of the equal sign.
2.) Once you get -12x = -72, you need to get just the variable alone. What's the opposite of multiplication? Division. Divide -12 on each side to get x alone. You should end up with x = 6.
