Initially cooperative and then competitive.

Indians and Jamestown settlers worked together as the English did not know the geography or food sources. Indians tribes aided the settlers through the early periods allowing for survival of the settlement. Once the settlement became established, the Indians and settlers entered into a more competition relationship as the English wanted to expand their land holdings and no longer needed the Indians for survival. 

The settlers looked down on the Indians, yet depended on them for survival!!!! Apex!
