Sexual reproduction is the most advantageous type of reproduction for the production of a wide variety of organisms because it combines the genetic material of two organisms that mate. Each of the parents contributes half of the offspring's genetic set by creating haploid gametes. The advantage of sexual reproduction is genetic recombination which occurs during the meiosis (formation of gametes).
