The assassination of Martin Luther King Jr as well as host of political, economic, and social factors such as police abuse, lack of affordable housing, socio-economic inequality, black militancy, and swift demographic shifts led to the break out of riots throughout the country.
Riots broke out in dozens of American cities in the late 1960s because the African Americans took to violence for they were being subjected to discrimination on all the fronts of society, were fed up of continued poverty, were not being provided equal opportunities, etc.
