There are 2 mixed numbers in  1 2/3 * 1 7/10.  One is 1 2/3; the other is 1 7/10.

Convert both to improper fractions:  1 2/3 becomes 5/2, and 1 7/10 becomes 17/10.
                                               5      17
Then your task is to multiply ---- * ----- , which, after reducing 5/10, becomes
                                               2      10

[tex] 1\dfrac{2}{3} \times 1 \dfrac{7}{10} [/tex]

Change to improper fractions:
[tex]= \dfrac{5}{3} \times \dfrac{17}{10} [/tex]

Cancel common factor 5:

[tex]= \dfrac{1} {3} \times \dfrac{17}{2} [/tex]

Combine:
