The fossils of the bird were found on the topmost layer which means that after the animal died it had less time to be covered by layers of earth therefore the bird lived and dies in a much later era than the other fossils. The Archaeopteryx was found below the bird but above the dinosaur this indicates that it lived in an era between that of the dinosaur and the bird.

The higher it is in the earth the earlier it died so a T-rex would be found in the jurassic and the Dimetrodon would be in the permian
