In politics, gridlock (also deadlock or political stalemate) refers to a situation in which the government is unable to agree on a policy, and therefore, cannot pass a law that would benefit the people. Gridlock often occurs when two legislative houses, or a legislative house and the executive power, are controlled by different political parties.
When the government is unable to act on matters such as education because the legislature believes states should pay more for education and the president believes the federal government should pay more for education, it is an example of Gridlock.
