It can be positive when a friend is trying to keep you away from drugs alcohol etc. it can be negative when your "friends' are pure pressuring you to do drug alcohol etc. Its sometimes difficult to resist because you people make you feel left out fro not doing it. Its important to resist because you can become addicted  or you will get yourself and others in serious trouble.
