Social control theory recommends that individuals'
connections, responsibilities, qualities, standards, and convictions urge them
not to infringe upon the law. Accordingly, if moral codes are internalized and
people are tied into and have a stake in their society, they will deliberately
confine their tendency to commit divergent actions.
