Since the formula is [tex] \frac{1}{2} [/tex](h)(b₁+b₂), you substitute that in and get [tex] \frac{1}{2} [/tex](3)(8+4) which is [tex] \frac{1}{2} [/tex](3)(12) which results in 3(6)=18.
