This is the simplest form of lipid made from three fatty acids with an ester linkage to a glycerol. Most triacylglycerols found in nature are from two or more different fatty acids. They are relatively insoluble in water and hydrophobic due to the non-polar nature of the aliphatic portion of the fatty acid chains.
