There are different phases in the cell division. This phases includes interphase, prophase and the likes.
If a cell has 80 picograms of DNA in its g1 phase, the picograms of DNA present in the prophase cell will be doubled = 160 picograms of DNA.
- During cell division, at the interphase G1 stage the cell is preparing to start its cell division.
- At the S phase, the DNA replicates resulting in a double amount.
- Then through the G2 and then the prophase where cell division begins.
- At this stage the amount of DNA has been doubled after going through the process of replication.
In summary if the starting amount is then 80 picograms, then at prophase its amount would be 80 x 2 = 160picograms of DNA.
