In any energy pyramid, only 10% of the available energy is passed from one level to the next.

The 10% Rules states that 10% of the avaliable energy will pass between each stage of a energy pyramid. EX. 1000J. -> 100J. -> 10J. The other energy is burned off as heat and digesting.
