Rheumatoid
arthritis makes the joints inflamed and painful, making it difficult for
patients to move about and perform daily activities. With proper care and
physical therapy, it is possible for the patient to live with minimum or no
assistance. As a nurse, give patient ample time for activities and ample time
for rest. Teach self-administered simple comfort measures such as application
of hot and cold, rest, use of foam mattresses, splints and relaxation
techniques to do whenever the unavoidable joint stiffness strikes.
