Square one factor from column A: [tex](x - y)^2 = x^2 - xy -xy +y^2 = x^2-2xy+y^2[/tex]
Add it to one factor from column B: [tex](x^2+2xy+y^2) +(x^2-2xy+y^2)=2x^2+2y^2[/tex]
Numerical Example Using the Identity:
x = 5 and y = 3
(5² + 2(5×3)+3²) + (5 - 3)² = 2(5)² + 2(3)²
(25 + 2(5×3)+9) + (2)² = 2(25) + 2(9)
(25 + 30 + 9) + 4 = 50 + 18
64 + 4 = 68
