Estimating A Sum
The process of estimation requires the knowledge of rounding. When estimating a sum first decide what rounding will take place. If you want to estimate to the nearest tens, round all the numbers to the nearest tens. If you want to estimate to the nearest hundreds, round all the numbers to the nearest hundreds. The same is true for thousands, ten-thousands, etc.
