The stories I'd tell my children are stories that typically show a non-realistic scenario. I'd tell my children fairy tales or myths. I find that myths and folklore and the like are far more entertaining for the young ages and don't specifically display the hardships of real life. Fairy tales also fuel the imagination and help children generate more creativity. Real life is harder to understand for children so fairy tales are much better. That's the type of fictional stories i'd tell my children.

I would tell them classical stories, like Jack in the Beanstalk, Pinochio, the three little pigs and the selfish giant which has faded through time. I want them to experience how my childhood went. How those stories would make me cry and make me really happy in a certain way. I want them to learn the lessons I've learned through these stories in which helped me to become a better person and made me indeed the guy I am today.
