In an ethane (C2H6) molecule, each carbon atom is bonded to three hydrogen atoms.

Ethane is made up of two carbon atoms and six hydrogen atoms. Each carbon atom in ethane forms four single bonds: one to each of three hydrogen atoms and one to the neighboring carbon atom.

Carbon has four electrons in its valence shell, while hydrogen has only one electron in its valence shell. Carbon requires four hydrogen atoms for sharing of electrons.
