For extended outings on the water, leave a float plan with a relative or friend, or at least a local marina. You also should file a daily position report, especially if your planned route has changed.
Your float plan should:
a) Include information about your emergency contacts, boat description, and crew members
b) Only contain your intended departure time
c) Not mention any changes in your planned route
d) Exclude details about the boat description
