A class of 12 girls and 14 boys is going to choose 3 students to represent them in student government. Allie suggested that the first 3 students to arrive in class the next day should be the representatives. Bobby suggested that each student roll 2 numbers cubes and the 3 students with the highest sum should be the representatives. Whose method would result in a fair sample that represents the class population, and why?

I would say Bobby's suggestion would be the most fair method. His method would be completely fair to the whole class because it is by chance that you role a certain number. On the other hand, Allie's suggestion is not completely fair to all the kids in the class. Some kids have an advantage of getting to class earlier than others due to how they get to school. Some take a bus, some take a car, other walk. The walkers might get to school faster than the car riders and busers, so that is not fair to the whole class.
