Omar wrote 3 + ( 4 × 6 ) to represent the phrase "3 more then the product of 4 and 6." Did Omar need to use a grouping symbol? Explain.

The order of operations is PEMDAS (parenthesis, exponents, multiplication/division, addition/subtraction).  This means that you do multiplication before adding, so 3 + 4*6 is the same thing as 3 + (4*6).  Because of this, Omar did not need to use a grouping symbol.

Nope. Omar was perfectly correct. You see hes correct because 3 more than the product of 4 and 6 you do that first 6 times 4 because there in parenthesis. Then you add 3 and that would be your answer.
