I read this story. Ok, first we need to know what irony is. It is an occurrence that is contrary to what is expected to happen. For example, you have two roads to go down and you have a friend with you who does NOT like to exercise. Since you know your friend doesn't like to exercise you would choose the road with a smaller distance, but your friend chooses the opposite. That's when you can say "Isn't this ironic? Don't you think?" In this story you have a burglar (Valjean) who stole silver plates. He should of been sent to jail by word of the owners (the bishop), but instead he gave him candlesticks to match his plates. That's ironic, don't you think? Well, B is your answer.
