When given the exact same cross sectional area (as a constant), as the load increases, the stress will also increase as a consequence. The opposite holds true. When given a constant, non-changing cross sectional area, the stress decreases as the load decreases.
The relationship between a load and stress can be defined as similar charaistics. And as the load increases the stress will also increase as a consequence.
