What type of answer would you expect from the problem below? Explain why you expect that type of answer.

5/6 + 9.25

Respuesta :

Answer: 10.08 because if you divide 5/6 it equals 0.83... Then, if you add 0.83 + 9.25 it equals 10.08!

[tex]\rightarrow \frac{5}{6}+9.25[/tex]

⇒The denominator of fraction is 6,that is not in the form of [tex]2^a,\text{or},5^b,\text{or},2^a \times 5^b[/tex]

⇒If denominator contains either of these, that is [tex]2^a,\text{or},5^b,\text{or},2^a \times 5^b[/tex], the decimal representation of the fraction will be Terminating.

⇒So, the fraction [tex]\rightarrow \frac{5}{6}[/tex], when represented in terms of decimal ,it will be non terminating , repeating Decimal.

Other decimal, 9.25 is terminating decimal.

⇒Sum of "Non terminating repeating Decimal" and "Terminating decimal" will yield "Non terminating repeating Decimal".
