Purple coneflower is a common plant in Indiana. One year during a drought, the plants that had a shorter growing period survived better than the ones with a longer growing period. What effect did this MOST LIKELY have on the plants

The drought revealed the difference in the conditions where the two plants survived. The regular weather in Indiana has enough moisture to allow the longer growing period plants to survive. In dryer conditions, the shorter growing period survived because it is suited for the dyer conditions.
