The Camp David Accords were signed by Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin on 17 September 1978, following twelve days of secret negotiations at Camp David

In 1977, Carter hosted Egyptian leader Anwar el-Sadat and Israeli prime minister Menachem Begin for two weeks at Camp David.  A formal peace treaty emerged from these “Camp David Accords” calling for Israel’s historic withdrawal from the Sinai Peninsula. In turn, Egypt acknowledged Israel as a nation.
