Polish dances of the same names
The polonaises and mazurkas that Chopin composed were based on the rhythms of Polish dances with the same names. Fantasiestücke (Fantasy Pieces) is one of many character pieces that Robert Schumann wrote.
Polonaise has a rhythm very close to that of Swedish 16th Polska or 16th Polska, and the two dances share a common origin. Polskadance was introduced to Sweden during the Vasa dynasty when King Vasa introduced it from Poland to Sweden, hence its name simply means Poland. "Polska" is the Polish word for Poland.
