Aspirin because of its antinflammatory effect, acetylsalicylic acid is useful in treating arthritis symptoms. Opioids such as hydromorphone and meperidine should be avoided because they promote drug dependency and do not affect the inflammatory process. Alprazolam is an antianxiety, not an anti-inflammatory agent.
