4(N)(N+1)-3
4(N^2+N)-3
4N^2+4N-3

Check my work, plug that into the quadratic formula, and you got an answer
There is no numbers so i will give you an example , 
15/ 20 = 3/4 = three less would be 1/4 * 4 = 1 = 1.5 + 1.5
