After the many acts Britain put on colonies from prohibiting them to do certain things or forcing soldiers into their homes, the colonists got fed up. The Tea Act where the colony could only buy high taxed tea from Britain caused the Boston Tea Party where the colonist threw all the tea into the harbor. Another thing is when colonist were shot and killed by the British soldiers this angered them too.
There are many things that set off the revolution but I believe those two things were the top events.
