i would say the answer here is "interest." when a story has various sentence structure, you find yourself more engaged in the writing and you wish to follow the sentences to discover new information. repeated short sentences usually create a tension in the writing, because your thoughts are quick when you're nervous or excited. resolution is part of the plot and regionalism, by my understanding, is an unrelated term entirely.
