For the Freedmen who were unable to leave, life was merciless. With no money, home or education, many freedmen chose to return to their previous masters. Others lucky enough to leave migrated to the West, North and the North West
They found it very difficult to gain their rights.
Feedback: Slaves gained their freedom, but the Southern states worked hard to prevent them from gaining all of the rights of citizens. Some slaves moved to the North.
