50 POINTS

The height of an electricity tower is 200 ft. tall. The tower is secured by a wire, stretching from the top of the tower to a spot on the ground 50 ft. away from the base of the tower. The wire creates a right triangle with the tower and the ground. What is the length of the wire to the nearest foot?

*Please explain your answer and how you got it.*

Answer:

Let AB be the height of electric tower and BC be its base.

it forms a right angled triangle

so

base=BC=50ft

hypotenuse =AC=?

perpendicular=AB=200ft

by using Pythagoras law

h²=p²+b²

AC²=200²+50²

AC=√42500

AC=206.15ft

206.15ft is the length of wire.

Using Pythagorean theorem

[tex]\\ \sf\longmapsto AC^2=200^2+50^2[/tex]

[tex]\\ \sf\longmapsto AC^2=40000+2500[/tex]

[tex]\\ \sf\longmapsto AC^2=42500[/tex]

[tex]\\ \sf\longmapsto AC=206.15ft[/tex]
