Answer: one of the biggest reasons was slavery. The southern states wanted to keep slavery but the north (union) was against it. They’re were fighting over what states should be free and what should be slave states. The confederate states (south) wanted slavery to stay because it was how they made money and the north was afraid that the south would use slavery to take over the work industry.
