It was important for colonists to be separate from the British because they had plans of making a new country better than the one they left behind. Looking back so many years, we can see that pushing for independence was the right choice because we live in the most powerful country in the world today!!!!!!!!

The colonials believed that they would be better able to rule their nation and wanted an independent nation that would provide them with equality and freedom to all citizens.

Thus, they initiated a revolution against British tyranny with the intention to gain freedom of speech and civil rights by forming the constitution of the US.
