Average speed is total distance travelled divided by total time travelled.
Average speed = Total distance / Total time

Maxwell's average speed = [tex]\frac{2}{3}[/tex] ÷ [tex]\frac{2}{15}[/tex]
[tex]\frac{2}{3}[/tex] x [tex]\frac{15}{2}[/tex] = 5 miles / hour
Maxwell runs faster because he has a higher average speed when compared with Hayley
