Read the passage from the ancient Egyptian Book of the
Dead.
The ancient Egyptians had many religious practices and
prepared for the afterlife in many ways.
They believed that life on Earth and life after death with
the gods were linked. They performed rituals and used
magical spells as part of their religion. They believed that
if they made offerings to the gods, they would have a
favorable life. They would ask the priests to help them
with spells and with actual healing and medicine. They
also believed that magic was involved in reaching the
afterlife, so they had to prepare. Certain prayers had to
be said, and specific actions had to be done, or a soul
could be lost on the way to achieving life after death.
