The Enlightenment Period
Limitations on the English monarch did not stop
with the Magna Carta and English Bill of Rights. In
the 17th century a new way of thinking emerged
that was inspired by the advances being made in
the field of science. These scientists believed that
God had purposefully created an orderly universe.
Enlightened thinkers believed these same laws of
nature applied to people and society. This period
came to be known as the Enlightenment. In this
