Kalpana Chawla is the first Indian woman in space . She was born in 1961 at Karnal, Haryana .-She finished her schooling at Tagore Bal Niketa in 1976. She did BE from Punjab Engineering College. The second phase of life starts and at the age of 23 she obtained Masters Degree in Aerospace in 1984 in University of Texas and did Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering in 1986. In 1995 she picked up space programme by NASA. Afterwards in 1997 she became first Indian American woman in space. In 2003 January she went in her second space shuttle in Columbia, to study the outer atmosphere of Sun .Unfortunately, the shuttle lost its contact.
