The confederate victory forced a hasty Union retreat to the north. On February 23, the Confederate forces marched around the Union Army and headed for Albuquerque. The Union troops knew the Confederate forces would use the supplies stored in Albuquerque, so the Union soldiers burned their supply depot to the ground.
