After reading the passage from the novel " The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," we can say the following about what Darcy is doing:
C. Making an inference.
What is an inference?
An inference is a conclusion we reach based on the information we have. Here, Darcy is concluding something about Dr. Jekyll, the main character of the story.
Darcy infers that Jekyll has an uncompromising view of the world. The information he has is the fact that Jekyll is often saying that he only has two choices in life.
What Darcy does not know is the meaning of Jekyll's words. Jekyll has to choose between two sides of his personality - good and evil.
Therefore, his inference is not completely right because he does not possess all the necessary knowledge and information.
