English European is written as ‘A European' because it is pronounced as a constant, they say. My question is when we say the word European , the first two letters are pronounced as ‘u', and u is a vowel than why is it ‘An European'.
It’s because the pronunciation is technically a ‘y’ sound, and even though y is sometimes considered a vowel, ‘an’ is not used in front of words that start with the ‘y’ sound.
