Only 89.3% of the picture can be used in the new frame of (8 in. x 10 in.).
What is aspect ratio?
Aspect ratio is nothing but an image projection attribute that describes the proportional relationship between the width and height of the image.
In our case, if the person want to increase photo size from (5 in. by 7 in.) photo to an (8 in. by 10 in.), then the proportional relationship of the width and height are not same, therefore some of the picture will get chopped off.
Aspect ratio = [tex]\frac{height}{width}[/tex]
Aspect ratio of the first frame = Â [tex]\frac{5}{7}[/tex]= 0.714
Proportional relationship gives the new frame height as:
new frame height = [tex]\frac{5}{7}[/tex] x width of the second frame
             = [tex]\frac{5}{7}[/tex] x 10 =7.14
∴ If we want to increase it to 8 in. then the picture will get chopped off and the remaining picture size percentage will be:
( [tex]\frac{7.14}{8}[/tex] ) x 100 = 89.3 %
Hence the 89.3 % picture can be used in the new frame.
