The question is asking to calculate the lewis structure for the anion -CH2CN and abse on my research, Lewis structure is a simple way to keep track of bonding electrons, non-bonding electrons, and formal charges in molecules. I hope you are satisfied with my answer and feel free to ask for more

Answer :  The Lewis-dot structure of [tex]^-CH_2CN[/tex] is shown below.

Explanation :

Lewis-dot structure : It shows the bonding between the atoms of a molecule and it also shows the unpaired electrons present in the molecule.

In the Lewis-dot structure the valance electrons are shown by 'dot'.

The given molecule is, [tex]^-CH_2CN[/tex]

As we know that carbon has '4' valence electrons, hydrogen has '1' valence electron and nitrogen has '5' valence electrons.

Therefore, the total number of valence electrons in [tex]^-CH_2CN[/tex] = 4 + 2(1) + 4 + 5 + 1 = 16

According to Lewis-dot structure, there are 12 number of bonding electrons and 4 number of non-bonding electrons.

In this molecule, (CN) is cyanide group in which carbon bonded to the nitrogen by triple bond.

Hence, the Lewis-dot structure of [tex]^-CH_2CN[/tex] is shown below.
