Producers take energy from the Sun and transform it into organic molecules rich in carbohydrates, lipids and sugars. Main producers in aquatic ecosystems are algae and in terrestrial ecosystems - plants.
- Producers are very important for the transfer of energy within the ecosystem. It is because, producers make food that is the only source of energy for consumers.
- Consumers rely on producers for their energy requirement. They pass on this energy from primary consumers to secondary consumers and tertiary consumers.
- This energy is then transferred to decomposers.
- Hence, producers are important for energy transfer within an ecosystem.
