Answer: C or D, probably C

Explanation: Houses would seem to be much more run down from the 1700s if you compared them to houses today, it can't be a because people's parenst die all the time, or b because people still use their chimneys today, and d seems a) impossible and b) unrealistic, so I would go with C.
