"Caffeine is a highly addictive drug found in coffee, tea, and some sodas. Unlike cigarettes, however, there have been very few calls to tax it, to regulate its consumption, or limit its use in public places. Why the difference

Answer:

There is no doubt that both nicotine and caffeine are addictive. They act as a stimulant of the central nervous system. Caffeine consumption is generally considered safe. However, it's good to keep in mind that some side effects are linked to anxiety, restlessness, tremors, irregular heartbeat and trouble sleeping. The other way around, the problem is that smoking kills millions every year, not because of the nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive drug that keeps you smoking, but it is the other harmful chemicals in cigarettes that make smoking so dangerous. From my perspective, that's the main reason the government applies different rules to them.
