Find x.
Option C:
x = 6
Solution:
The image of the formula is shown is attached below.
Let us take p = 4 and q = 5.
First find height of the triangle y.
[tex]y^{2}=p q[/tex]
[tex]y^{2}=4\times 5[/tex]
[tex]y^{2}=20[/tex]
Taking square root on both sides, we get
[tex]y=2\sqrt{5}[/tex]
In small right triangle, base = 4, height = 2√5 and hypotenuse = x
Using Pythagoras theorem,
In right triangle, square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.
[tex]x^2=(2\sqrt5)^2+4^2[/tex]
[tex]x^2=20+16[/tex]
[tex]x^2=36[/tex]
Taking square root on both sides, we get
x = 6
Hence option C is the correct answer.
