  • The Aryans were Guerrillas who first emerged in northern India around 1500 BCE.
  • Many Aryans were nomadic cattle herders, often hacking and burning farmers.  An Aryan group would hack or cut the trees on a plot in the area.  Months later, when the forest dried up, they set it on fire.
  • The ashes left from the fire fertilized the soil for a number of growing seasons.  The Aryans would repeat the process in a new area, after the soil had exhausted.
  • The Aryans did not stay there for long, so the Aryans did not build permanent homes, unlike the Indus River Valley culture that preceded them in the region .
