Anne Hathaway (1556 – 6 August 1623) was the wife of William Shakespeare, the English poet, playwright and actor. They were married in 1582, when he was 18 and she was 26 years old.
After Shakespeare's death in 1616 Anne continued to live in New Place as a wealthy widow, until her death in 1623, aged sixty-seven. She was buried beside her husband in the chancel of Holy Trinity Church in Stratford.
Shakespeare was married to Anne Hathaway. She was eight years older than him and at the time of the wedding she was already pregnant with their first child. Two more children – twins – followed, but then, at some point, Shakespeare left Anne and the children in Stratford and moved to London.
